It’s the most wonderful time of the year: NFL Playoffs-time!
Last Sunday, there were 32 teams in the league. This week, 20 of them have gone home, leaving 12 others to compete for the grand prize: the Lombardi Trophy. This is what football is all about.
Our enemy is in sight
We’re traveling to hostile territory, New Orleans, Louisiana, for the most important game the Detroit Lions have played since 1999. And I’ll tell you...There’s nothing better than playoff road games, because sending your opponent home in front of their home crowd just has a real nice vibe about, if you know what I mean. However, before we start day-dreaming about post-game celebrations, we’ve gotta put a high-powered offense in its place, and the Saints ain’t no joke. They’ve got Drew Brees, Darren Sproles, Marques Colston, Robert Meatchum, Jimmy Graham...I could go on forever listing all their playmakers. That team is, quite simply, absolutely sick.
Believe this: Drew Brees will be under-pressure
If we’re going to win this thing, we’re definitely going to have to stop their running game and hold down their passing attack. Pressure absolutely has to be placed on Brees, because the last thing we need to do is allow him to sit back there in the pocket and get comfortable. We’re also going to have to put a good, tight coverage on their receivers, so Drew won’t have any windows to throw into.
Our offense is going to hold it down too. Over the past 5 weeks or so, they’ve been putting up points out the wazoo. I'm confident they're going to continue that trend.
All us Lions are going to have to be on our A-game
There’s no room whatsoever for mistakes in these playoffs, because errors will get you sent home. Our goal has never been to merely reach the playoffs, because being in the postseason just isn’t good enough. Our goal is to win this thing and hold up that Lombardi Trophy in four weeks in Indianapolis.
Saturday marks the beginning of a new season: the NFL Postseason, where everything you did during the previous 17 weeks no longer matter. We now have our hands full with a New Orleans Saints team who’s been goin’ H.A.M. all year long. But our team is hungry -- We know what’s at stake -- We know what we have to do...
We have to keep on restoring the roar, baybeeeeeeee!
